About the property

From the top of its hilly position, 547 m above sea level, Scandelaia stands as sentinel of an unparalleled landscape, capturing in all its depth the alluring, never-ending scenery which, stretching across the sinuous Chianti hills on which lie tiny villages of age-old charm, ends on the ancient towers of Siena and on the verdant peaks of the Colline Metallifere.

Discover the Villa
Scandelaia appears at the end of a dirt road through the woods of Chianti, just past the delightful hamlet of San Gusmè and a few kilometres from the town of Castelnuovo Berardenga, in the land of the Gallo Nero, symbol of the most sublime Sienese winemaking tradition. A long row of cypress trees leads to the entrance to the property. From here, a real piece of paradise opens up, a large park immersed in the quiet, a true botanical garden spread over several levels, studded with multiple blooms and carpeted with a well-kept lawn along which wind wonderful panoramic paths. On the lower level is the large infinity pool, overlooking a dream viewpoint that promises fantastic sunsets. In the centre of the park is the villa, a building dating back over a thousand years that has been completely renovated whilst preserving its authenticity and original architecture. Protagonist is stone, left exposed everywhere, combined with wood and terracotta, in a splendid restoration of the time that has forged the current design, in which respect for local tradition is combined with a refined choice of furnishings and upholstery designed to enhance the large, panoramic bedrooms and prestigious living rooms. In Scandelaia silence and privacy are guaranteed, despite being just a short distance from some of the most beautiful and interesting destinations in Tuscany. NB: The caretakers, living in an annex within the property, will discreetly take care of the maintenance of the villa, the park and the swimming pool and will be available for any needs and requirements of the guests who, during their stay, are guaranteed full privacy and complete use of the property.
SCANDELAIA HAS BEEN SUBJECTED TO A CHECK-UP BY A TECHNICAL RESPONSIBLE BEFORE THE BEGINNING OF THE SEASON, TO ENSURE CONSISTENCY OF THE DESCRIPTION, ACCESSORIES LISTED ON THIS PAGE AND THEIR PRESENT STATE OF OPERATION/MAINTENANCE, TO GUARANTEE QUALITY, CLEANLINESS AND COMFORTS TO ALL CLIENTS WHO WILL STAY HERE

Interior:

Scandelaia has two floors connected by an internal staircase, with the addition of a tower. The main entrance leads into the spacious living room, organised with a dining area, a large fireplace and an ample sitting area with sofas and television. Proceeding along a short corridor, you come to the kitchen, divided in two areas and connected to the pantry/laundry room. The floor is completed by two double bedrooms (one with divisible bed) with ensuite bathroom with tub. All the rooms on this floor lead directly into the garden; the living room and kitchen have access to the external terrace with a living area for relaxing and eating outdoors. The first floor is composed of the elegant master bedroom with private bathroom with tub and shower, a double bedroom with ensuite bathroom with tub and shower (reached down four steps), another double bedroom (with divisible bed) with ensuite bathroom with tub, a study, a sitting room and a bathroom with tub and shower serving the bedroom located in the tower, which is reached up a flight of stairs.

Park:

Just under 40 hectares of land delimit the immense spaces of this estate, an authentic green lung where an extensive patch of woodland (for the most part walkable) alternates with garrisons of olive trees planted along a terraced ridge. At the centre lies the majestic fenced park that frames the villa, extending for approximately one hectare on several well-connected levels which guarantee total and continuous use of all the set-up areas. Walking through it, along paved paths, stone steps and grassy surfaces, you come to a true botanical garden, designed to always be in bloom and enlivened by a multitude of variegated flowers and tall trees: lavender and rosemary bushes, agapantus, passion fruit, climbing roses, oleanders, geraniums, blue plumbago and rows of hydrangeas that border a wonderful path that encircles the villa. From the electric gate, at the end of a beautiful avenue of cypresses and then a short driveway leading to the parking area, you come to the charming entrance of the villa, surrounded by climbing ivy and wisteria. At the back is a large area with a table for outdoor dining, protected by a large umbrella, a barbecue, a ping pong table and various relaxation areas. The lower terrace, reached down two flights of steps, contains the beautiful pool area. Please notice that photos are taken in spring, therefore flower blossoming, and the colours of the gardens' grass could be different at the moment of your arrival at the villa.

Swimming Pool:

The infinity pool occupies a front row seat in the heart of the garden and in the most panoramic point of the property: facing south-west it offers magnificent sunsets over the Chianti hills. Set on the lower terrace of the park, it can be reached from the villa, which is about 30 m away, down one of the two flights of steps located on both sides of the area. This spectacular rectangular pool, measuring 5 x 17 m with the depth ranging from 1.5 m in the centre up to 2.5 m on both sides, is lined with mosaic and has Roman steps with a handrail for access and a cover for the night. The beautiful, terracotta-paved solarium which surrounds it, bordered by flowerbeds of geraniums, oleanders and blue plumbago bushes, is equipped with umbrellas, a sitting area and elegant sunbeds; on one side is a cold-water shower. The pool is sanitised with salt and can also be used at night thanks to the lighting both inside and outside the pool. It is available from the last Saturday in April until the first Saturday in October.
